BGSBU Academic Council ratifies several decisions of VC

JAMMU, Mar 3: Academic Council of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University was held here today under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof Javed Musarrat.
The Council approved the initiative of the Vice Chancellor to introduce four new academic programmes including MCA (2 years), M Sc Environmental Sciences, PG Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education and 5 years integrated MCA. The Council also approved the decision of the Vice Chancellor to establish two full fledged departments viz Department of Urdu and Department of Islamic Studies under the School of Islamic Studies and Languages. The Council also ratified the decision of the Vice Chancellor to include three elective courses in Gojri, Pahari and Kashmiri languages in PG Programmes under CBCS.
Addressing the meeting, Prof Musarrat highlighted ongoing academic programmes and facilities created for students to ensure quality teaching and learning in the University. The members of the Academic Council greatly applauded the significant academic and administrative reforms made by the Vice Chancellor of the University. The members noted with satisfaction the substantial improvement in the infrastructure and addition of 30 new academic programmes during the tenure of present Vice Chancellor.
The members hailed the decision of induction of Prof Asif Husain, a renowned academician of international repute as Dean and Principal of School of Engineering and Technology. The Council hoped that the induction of Prof Asif will give a new fillip to the academics and will boost the consultancy which is an important hallmark of any Engineering institution. The members complimented the Vice Chancellor for obtaining Rs 12 crores TEQIP-III grant funded by World Bank and MHRD which has resulted in the modernization of teaching and research labs in the School of Engineering and Technology.
The Council appreciated the Vice Chancellor’s decision to reduce fee in some of the important courses to provide affordable quality education to all strata’s of the society. The academic programmes in which the fee has been reduced, include, MBA, MBA Hospitality and Tourism, MCA, M Sc IT, MA Economics and M Sc Microbiology and Diploma Engineering Programmes.
