JAMMU, Sept 23: A delegation of J&K Gujjar leaders called on Dr Jai Singh chief patron Bharatiya Gurjar Parishad (BGP) and discussed the role of Gujjars and Bakerwals from the State in strengthening the national unity and integrity.
The delegation in this regard highlighted the role of various towering Gujjar personalities from the State including the veteran leader Ch. Wazir Mohammed Haqla.
Jai Singh while interacting with the Gujjar leaders from the State highly lauded the role of Ch. Wazir Mohammed Haqla in defending the country during 1965 and 1971 wars who helped the Indian Army during the hours of crisis and led his community in defeating the designs of the enemy by working shoulder to shoulder with Army. Not only this, the Gujjar leader played a leading role in maintaining the communal harmony in the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch. He said the services of Mr Hakla were unparallel and appealed the Government of India to issue a postal stamp on the name of this great Gujjar leader of the State on whose name some roads and schools in Poonch district have already been named.
He said the Gujjars in the State also performed a great role for the national cause during the present turmoil.
