Srinagar, Apr 4: The assets of National Conference and People’s Democratic Party candidates have risen sharply after 2008 Assembly and 2009 Parliamentary elections, the affidavits filed by these candidates reveal.
As per the affidavit filed by Mehboob Beg of NC to the Returning Officer in Anantnag, he had shown that he did not own any car before he won the 2009 Parliamentary elections from South Kashmir. He had also shown that he had a cash amount of Rs 50,000 and bank deposit of Rs 1 lakh.
PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, who won the 2008 Assembly elections from Wachi in Shopian district, had shown in her affidavits a total property worth over Rs 11 lakh, including cash, bank deposits and jewellery.
However, as per the latest affidavits filed by these two candidates, their assets have shown a steep rise since they were elected to Parliament and Assembly respectively.
Beg today owns two cars, a Maruti Esteem and a Renault Duster, amounting to Rs. 14.5 lakh, while his wife has total immovable assets, including Scorpio car, 800 grams of gold worth Rs 30 lakh.
Beg’s cash have also risen from Rs. 5, 0000 to 6, 0000 and bank deposits from 1 lakh to 7 lakh.
The NC candidate has also shown that he has one-third of ancestral property at Sarnal in Anantnag district whose cost is disputed. Beg has a residential house in Humhama, Budgam, and 25 marlas of land purchased in 2004 at Rs. 20 lakh, whose present value is Rs. 30 lakh.
In addition, he has a residential house in Trikuta Nagar in Jammu and 12 marlas of land, purchased at Rs. 15 lakh whose present value is 25 lakh. Beg’s total assets are worth 1.11 crore.
Similarly, Mehbooba’s property has also risen since 2008. She in her latest affidavit showed her cash has multiplied from Rs. 4, 0000 in 2008 to Rs. 68, 07891 in 2014.
Mehbooba also owns jewellery of 900 grams worth Rs. 30 lakh. She did not own any land or residential house in 2008, but she has now acquired 1 kanal land at Bijbehara valued at Rs. 10 lakh and a residential house at Bijbehara valued at 12 lakh. In addition, she also has furniture and laptops worth Rs 15.50 lakh.
The Bhartiya Janata Party candidate Mushtaq Ahmad Malik has shown total assets worth 3.15 lakh. Malik has shown his bank deposit at Rs. 10,000, his wife 5,000. In addition he has Rs. 2 lakh cash in hand while his wife has Rs. 1 lakh. He had shown Rs 1.07200 lakh assets in his affidavit filed during 2008 Assembly elections.
