SRINAGAR, Apr 21: Beating the Retreat Ceremony was held by the Army at the Hall of Fame, Leh, to pay homage to the Martyrs, a Defence Ministry spokesperson said today.
Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that with the onset of the summer season, ‘Beating the Retreat Ceremony’ was conducted at the Hall of Fame yesterday at 1830 hrs.
He said Lt Gen YK Joshi, General Officer Commanding Fire and Fury Corps was the chief guest for the ceremony. The event was attended by a number of civil and military dignitaries of Ladakh Region, he said.
He said the mesmerising event commenced with conduct of the ‘Beating the Retreat Ceremony’, by the Ceremonial Guard followed by a Vibrant Pipe and Brass Band Fusion display.
The event was also witnessed by local populace with enthusiasm and provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen the bond between the locals and the Army, he said.
Col Kalia said the Hall of Fame at Leh was established in 1986 to showcase the valour, sacrifice and achievements of the Army during various operations in Ladakh, in addition to displaying the culture and heritage of the Ladakh region.
Over the past three decades, the institute has become a major attraction for domestic and foreign tourists alike, having an annual footfall of over 1,50,000 visitors, he added.
