RAJOURI, Mar 27: Sarpanchs and Panchs from various Panchayat Halqas of Thannamandi Block today lodged strong protest with the Block Development authorities demanding inquiry into the matter with regard to allotment of works worth Rs 3. 50 crore by the recently transferred BDO, rejecting the works recommended by Gram Panchayats.
The Panchayat members alleged that the then BDO, Thannamandi – Mohd Qasim Choudhary, was transferred on Feb 20, 2019. After coming to know about it, he allegedly allotted works worth Rs 3.50 crores, mostly in back dates to his favourites and totally ignored the works cleared by the Gram Panchayats. He was also holding additional charge of Panj Grain Block.
They further alleged that Qasim was relived on March 2, 2019 and new BDO, Mazahir Shah joined. They came to know from the BDO office staff that most of the works cleared by the Gram Panchayats in consultation with the concerned RDD staff were set aside while the outgoing BDO in hush- hush manner allotted works worth crores before relieving.
They lodged their strong protest with the new BDO, Thannamandi, Muzahir Shah and demanded cancellation of these works. Shah, however, stated that he was not competent to cancel the work approved by predecessor and would forward the case to the ACD Rajouri. On the written complaint of the Sarpanchs, the BDO then forwarded the case to the ACD Rajouri, Akhtar Qazi.
Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Rajouri, Mr Qazi when contacted said that he has not received any written complaint from BDO, Thannamandi till this evening, however, when ever such compliant is received by him, he would definitely take immediate action.
