LEH, Jan 17: Chairman/Chief Executive Councilor (CEC), LAHDC, Leh Advocate Tashi Gyalson today announced that BDC Chairmen of Leh district can participate in the General Council Meeting (GCM) of LAHDC, Leh whenever convened.
The announcement was made this evening by the CEC during an introductory meeting of BDCs of all the 16 blocks of Leh district, in presence of Executive Councillor for Rural Development Department Tashi Namgyal Yakzee and Director RDD UT Ladakh Tahir Hussain, at DC Conference hall Leh.
ACD Leh Sonam Norboo, District Panchayat Officer, Leh Zakir Hussain, BDC chairmen of all the blocks, and BDOs attended the meeting.
Tashi Gyalson, who is also Chairman of Zila Parishad, Leh, while interacting with BDC chairmen said that the present Hill Council is committed to strengthen and empower grassroots democracy at the Panchayat level in Leh district and to ensure close coordination between Panchayat institution and LAHDC, Leh, constructive deliberations are in progress.
Regarding amendment in Council Act for making BDC chairmen as ex officio members in the General Council Meeting of LAHDC, Leh, CEC Gyalson said that Council is in full support of this genuine demand and said that Council will not wait for amendment.
Tashi Namgyal Yakzee, while addressing the meeting, stressed on strong coordination and understating between LAHDC, Leh, and Panchayat members in achieving major targets.
Tahir Hussain said that with the formation of BDC, the three-tier democratic setup is completed in Leh and made it clear that as per the 2018 Amendment Act of LAHDC, Leh, the Hill Council Leh is the Zilla Parishad of Leh district and all elected BDC chairman are ex officio members of the Zilla Parishad.
BDC Chairman Leh Dr Skalzang Dorjey on behalf of BDCs projected their demands like making BDCs as Ex officio member in GCM of LAHDC, Leh, the release of funds for work done liabilities, etc.
