BCCI Working Committee decides to hold AGM on March 2

CHENNAI: The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) today decided to hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on March 2 this year in Chennai.

After a four hour long meeting, BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel in a media release announced that the working committee discussed the implication of the Supreme Court judgment of the IPL (Indian Premier League) spot-fixing scandal and decided to act as per legal advise.

Today’s working committee meeting was crucial as the BCCI’s AGM had to be postponed twice in the wake of the Mudgal Committee report findings that the exiled BCCI president N Srinivasan should not contest for the post until he gives up his Chennai Super King’s (CSK) team in the IPL.

Mr Srinivasan was charged of ‘conflict of interest’ as he owned the CSK team and simultaneously held office of the President of BCCI.

His son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan who was allegedly the principal of the CSK, was convicted of spot-fixing in the IPL.   However, the punishment for him is to be decided by the Mudgal Committee as per the Supreme Court’s direction.   Meanwhile, the working committee also decided to increase the monthly grant scheme for cricketers by 50 per cent, subject to a maximum of Rs 50 thousand per month from January 2015.
