AKHNOOR, July 27: Block Congress Committee (BCC) Akhnoor today held protest and burnt the effigy of PDP-BJP Government over shortage of essential commodities at Akhnoor.
A large number of Congress workers assembled in the town here and started protest during the day. They alleged that people of Akhnoor belt are facing acute shortage of water, power and ration as the PDP-BJP Govt has failed to  provide essential services to the public.
The BCC members blamed PDP-BJP Government for this crisis and alleged that this Government again turned out to be a complete failure on all fronts. Most parts of Akhnoor are reeling under acute water and power supply moreover, ration is not available at the CAPD outlets. The Government has not taken effective steps to solve the problem.
They also said that electricity cuts are being imposed for long hours and people are made to suffer. Drinking water is also not supplied regularly. Both these commodities, which are necessary in day to day life are not available. The people have been left on the mercy of God.
Not only this, the people are not given ration items on time. Consumers have to take rounds of ration depots to enquire about the availability of rice, wheat, sugar etc.
Attacking  BJP Government, BCC leaders said that the shortage of ration in Jammu region speaks about the insensitivity and callousness of the authorities. They said there is shortage of ration especially rice, sugar and flour in  Government depots all across the State.
“At a time when people in Jammu are facing worst ever water, ration and power crisis, those dream sellers who had promised to tap hundreds of megawatts of hydroelectricity and make State self-reliant are maintaining a criminal silence on the subject. The temperature is soaring high and people protesting on roads but Government is silent and watching developments like a mute spectator,” a BCC leader maintained.
Prominent among those leading  included BCC convener Subash Langer, Shamsher Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Kuldeep Sharma, Vikram, Krishan, Gullu Ram, Kali Dass), KD  Sharma, Naresh Dutt, Rahul  Dev, Sanjay Sharma and others.
