JAMMU, June 24: A meeting of the Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association was held in Ramgarh.
The leader alleged that the Government Departments do not bother to take prompt action on the representations of their community members. They stated that a series of memorandums submitted to the Government have never been considered and are lying in fermentation.
Community leaders demanded representation in J&K Legislative Council, District Development Boards or any other forum of the Government.
They said that even the reservation benefits are taken by the members of those Scheduled Castes communities with whom the rearmost Batwal community members cannot compete. This is the reason that well educated boys and girls of the community are still hankering for jobs.
They proposed to the Government that to ensure equity in reservation all the 13 Scheduled Castes of the State be categorized into sub-groups with each block assigned a fraction of 8 per cent reservation quota so that Batwal community is also provided reservation for its empowerment.
Adding further they said that many plus two medical stream candidates from Batwal community appeared in Entrance Test JKCET 2013 but couldn’t figure in the select list of MBBS issued by the BOPEE solely for the reason that being belonging to poor families and due to having financial shortage they hadn’t got quality education. This year also a number of candidates of the community have appeared in JKCET Test but are not expected to get selected. Alternatively, the community leaders urged the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to nominate Plus Two Medical Stream candidates of the Batwal Community to the professional institutions to pursue MBBS course for the sake of their career.
Besides, the community leaders raised a demand for dispensation of ‘Economic-cum-Employment Package’ to their community.
