KATHUA, Apr 9: The people in Basohli township observed a complete bandh with shopkeepers downing the shutters of their business establishments and schools remaining closed as well as transport off the road in protest against yesterday’s  police action.
The irate people held a demonstration in Basohli town in protest against the entry of cops in Chanchal Mata temple in the town after a Gujjar complained that his goat has been stolen by some people which was lying in the temple premises.
The protestors alleged that the police trooped inside the temple with shoes and harassed the inmates including the Pujari of the temple.
They said there is a tradition of offering sheep or goat to the temple from times immemorial and some days back a devotee from Himachal Pradesh had come to offer the goat for sacrifice in the temple. The goat was lying in the temple premises and meantime some cops trooped in with shoes and harassed the Pujari.
The protestors demanded shouting slogans demanded action against the erring cops. Taking swift action police has attached three police men with district police lines Kathua. They included Sat Parkash ASI, Gyasu-ud-Din Constable and Amar Singh SPO.
Confirming this SDPO Basohli Jagdev Singh said that on the basis of a complaint police entered the temple. The matter is under investigation, he added.
