UDHAMPUR, May 13: A protest held at Barmeen, Udhampur against opening of a wine shop in the area has been alleged to be an exercise executed fraudulently and in a fake manner to misguide the public.
According to the reports, the bootlegging practice in the area supported by some high-profile people did not want that a government released shop should to be opened in the area.
The people of Barmeen also alleged that the protestors were hired and had come from a nearby Ghordi village where a wine shop already exists.
Speaking on the occasion, Bal Krishan, a resident of Barmeen village said that the people of the area used to buy cheaper homemade liquor at astronomical prices and many of them have lost their lives after consuming the spurious liquor.
He welcomed the opening of an excise shop in the area saying that people would be able to buy genuine liquor at genuine prices.
Raman Kumar, another resident also alleged that the protest led by a DDC member had a majority of the people from Ghordi village, who did not want the wine shop at Barmeen to be opened.
“Why people of Ghordi so concerned over the opening of shop in our village, when they have their own excise shop in the area. The protest is only stage- managed by High profile bootleggers who are likely to suffer loss with opening of an excise shop in the area,” he added.
The people of the area have impressed upon the DC Udhampur to take cognizance of the matter so that Barbeen should be made free of bootlegging in the area and instead a government shop is opened.
