Barley futures rise on spot demand

NEW DELHI, May 25: Barley prices traded higher by  Rs 6.50 at Rs 1,505 per quintal in futures trade today as operators created fresh positions on the back of firm physical leads.
Market players attributed the up tick in barley futures prices to surging demand for beer makers owing to rise in mercury amid tight arrivals from growing belts in the spot markets.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, barley delivery for the July contract advanced by Rs 6.50, or 0.43 per cent, to Rs 1,505 per quintal with an open interest of 6,720 lots.
Similarly, the delivery of the most-traded first contract inched up by Rs 3, or 0.20 per cent, to Rs 1,488 per quintal with an open interest stood at 11,820 lots. (PTI)
