‘Barat’ fails to turn up in Kachi Chawni

JAMMU, Nov 18: A ‘barat’ didn’t turn up at City Palace in Kachi Chawni tonight even as the family members, relatives and friends of the bride kept waiting till midnight tonight.
Later, it was found that the bridegroom—Neeraj Gupta son of late Subash Chander, a resident of Nanak Nagar, who runs a factory at Gangyal, was already married and had two children from another woman, police said.
Pacca Danga police station teams headed by SHO Inspector Mahesh Sharma under the supervision of SDPO City Kulbir Handa immediately swung into action.
Police said the family of the girl, which hailed from Baba Lal Ji Chowk, Jhullaka Mohalla had made all preparations to receive the ‘barat’ including the bridegroom Neeraj Gupta. As the ‘barat’ didn’t turn up till late tonight, the family members started making queries and they later came to know that it wouldn’t come as the boy had been exposed.
Neeraj Gupta, police said, was already married and had two children. He had kept his first wife separately and was solemnizing second marriage.
Police said they have taken up further investigations in the case.
