Bar bandh today, various bodies support

JAMMU, May 4: Deadlock over suspension of SHO Gandhi Nagar police station and other officials between Police Department and J&K High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA), Jammu persisted as the latter today decided to go ahead with call for Jammu bandh tomorrow.
However, people of district Kathua blocked the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway near Kalibari and extended their support to the Police Department.
The advocates across Jammu province suspended their work around two weeks back in all the Courts against the manhandling and harassment with one of their colleagues by SHO Gandhi Nagar police station and his colleagues.
“JKHCBA has given Jammu bandh call tomorrow against the atrocities meted out to its member Advocate Harshvardhan Gupta by illegally detaining and beating by the police officials and failure of the senior police officials to suspend the erring police personnel as demanded by the association”, said MK Bhardwaj, president, JKHCBA while talking to reporters during a press conference here this evening.
He appealed the transporters, traders, political parties, members of civil society, students and public at large to cooperate and make tomorrow’s bandh a success, so as to give a strong message against the police high handedness while dealing with the citizens.
He cautioned the public and citizens of Jammu not to believe on the false propaganda started by the police to mislead about tomorrow’s bandh call on the false claims that erring police officials have been suspended which in fact has not been communicated to the JKHCBA.
Ashok Khajuria, MLA, Kavinder Gupta, ex-Mayor, Bali Bhagat, general secretary BJP, Hari Singh, senior vice president, Congress, Vinod Sharma, general secretary Congress, Hussain Ali Waffa, general secretary PDP, HC Jalmaria, general secretary and spokesman JKNPP, YV Sharma, president CCI, Arun Gupta, general secretary CCI, Sham Lal Langer, vice-president CCI, Inderjit Khajuria, Ravi Mahajan, Gajan Singh, Ashok Gupta, president, Shiv Sena, Rajiv Mahajan, president, Shri Ram Sena, Sunil Dimple, JWAM, Nitin Bakshi, president, NSUI and Ajit Verma, student leader were also present during the conference.
Meanwhile, Tax Bar Association, Jammu held a meeting under the chairmanship of its President Reyaz A Buchh and resolved to support the bandh call given by Bar Association.
NYC and Oil Tanker Transporters’ Welfare Committee has also extended their support to the bandh call given by JKHCBA.
Meanwhile, massive protest was held in support of Police Department in district Kathua. Large number of people blocked the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway near Kalibari to boost the morale of police force. The protestors urged the people to put down the Jammu bandh call given by JKHCBA.
