Sir,
The decision of the Central Governemnt to ban Red beacon lights is a welcome decision. It was a long pending decision before the Government, but has been ultimately taken in public interest.
The Supreme Court had restricted ‘red beacon with flasher’ to vehicles of a small band of “high dignatries” holding constitutional posts, including President, Prime Minister and Chief Justice of India.
For decades, the blinking red lights atop Government cars has been the bane for millions of regular Indians. They are seen as a display of the power and importance of the official riding the car. Now that status has gone. Hope ordinary people won’t have to make way for these people on roads. The Beacon fitted cars would hardly care for ‘ordinary’ people. These high dignitaries would feel as if whole world belonged to them, and nobody else.
The Prime Minister deserves kudos for taking this decision in the interest of common man.
Yours etc…
