JAMMU, Feb 8: Workers of Central trade unions including Indian National Trade Union Congress, CITU and AITUC besides some State level organisations today resolved to observe two day general strike on February 20 and 21, 2013.
In a joint State level convention held here today, the members of these trade bodies including insurance and banking sector reviewed the preparations for the strike. Senior CITU leader Sham Parsad Kesar presided over the function while several other senior trade unionists including INTUC general secretary Raghubir Singh Chib, Pawan Gupta and Dalip Koul from AIIEA, Ashwani Pardhan, Anil Vaid and Arun Gupta from Banking sector, N K Dogra, Balkar Singh and Parminder from AITUC, Ajay Sharma and Amrik Singh from INTUC and K K Sharma from Railways Employees Union attended the programme and expressed their view point on the subject.
A large number of members/ delegates from these organizations actively participated in the convention and expressed their resolve to make this country-wide programme as grand success. The senior trade unionists emphasized the need for united struggle to resist the onslaught bestowed upon the working class by the Union Government and spoke in detail on the issues involved in the strike and the apathetic attitude of the Government towards the problems being faced by the workers. They emphasized the need to intensify the struggle to reverse the anti-worker policy of the Government.
A resolution was moved by Mr Kesar, seconded by Mr Chib and unanimously adopted by the members present on the occasion. It was decided to organize a massive rally on February 21, the second day of general strike. It was also resolved to start campaign to garner support of the employees in all the districts, industrial centers and other work places.
