JAMMU, Mar 12: The Bank employees including officers today staged protest dharna under the banner of Jammu Province Bank Employees Federation jointly with All India Bank Officers Association (Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh) in front of PNB, Shalamar here this evening.
It was followed by a massive demonstration program to oppose the proposed privatisation of Banks. The agitation is to culminate in a two days strike on March 15 and 16, 2021.
The gathering was addressed by Arun Kumar Gupta, general secretary Jammu Province Bank Employees Federation, who informed the gathering that the recent announcement by Govt to privatise Banks is retrograde and not in the interest of public at large. Public Sector Banks are the vehicles of economic growth and security from the last 5 decades and played vital role in various reforms.
He pointed out that all Govt programs reach to the common masses through Public Sector Banks. These banks performed extremely well during Jan Dhan Yojna accounts and demonetisation and are implementing all schemes for the benefit of common public like Direct Benefit Transfer, Gas subsidies, Atal Pension Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Beema Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Beema Yojna, Scholarships and many other such schemes. Further unemployment will increase, no job security will be there, exploitation of workers will be there, no reservation will be there, if Banks are privatised.
Ashwani Pradhan, Convenor All India Bank Officers Association in his address highlighted the threat to Public Sector Banking, in view of the Govt’s pro-corporate policies. He said that Public Sector Banks are increasing their operation profits year on, but these profits are being shifted for the provision of NPA loans. Then in the name of loss making, Banks are being privatised. He demanded recovery of NPA from the defaulters.
The gathering was also addresed by Tara Singh, Harbans Lal, Yogesh Kumar, Harminder Singh, Jitender Kumar and other Trade Union leaders.
In his concluding remarks, Arun Gupta asked all members present to meticulously implement the AIBEA call, which besides UFBU is also being supported by all major Trade Union centers of the country and make bank strike of March 15-16, a grand success.
