Jammu, Apr 2: A one day National C.M.E (Continuing Medical Education) -cum-workshop was organized by the Department of Forensic Medicne & Toxicology, Government Medical College Jammu today. The topic was “Medicolegal Aspects of Rape Trial”.
It was first of its kind event as its goal was to provide the highest level of training, practical instructions, current information and strategies to Medical professionals/ Doctors who are responders and advocates to the victims of crime against women.
The participants included HoDs, Faculty, Residents, P.Gs & U.G students from GMC and S.M.G.S Hospitals as well as A.S.C.O.M.S Sidhra. Moreover, Gynecologists & Medical Officers from peripheral Health institutions including Gandhi Nagar and Sarwal Hospitals also participated.
Dr. Zahid Gillani, Principal & Dean inaugurated the C.M.E. The welcome address was presented by Dr. Bhupesh Khajuria, Prof & HoD Forensic Medicine Department, G.M.C and organizing chairman of C.M.E whereas, the introduction and objective of C.M.E was read out by Advocate Deepika Singh Rajawat, chairperson.
Professor Dr. Jagadeesh N. Reddy a renowed Forensic Medicine Expert from V.I.M.S.R, Bangalore delivered guest lecture on the topic Protocol of Examination of Rape Victims, Opinion Framing & Recent Advances in Rape Laws’.
Dr Sunil Sharma, B.M.O from Health Department discussed about ‘Rape Trauma Syndrome’ and “suggestions for speedy train in Rape cases”.
A documentary on the theme ‘India’s daughters -Indian Rapists’ was also screened.
Additional Advocate General, J&K High Court, Advocate Aseem Sawhney highlighted the celebrated Judgments on Rape trial. Babila Rakwal, Administrator also spoke on the occasion regarding female harassment. It was followed by Interactive question – answer sessions.
