JAMMU, Oct 4: The members of majority community held protest and observed bandh in Rajouri, Thannamandi, Darhal and Kotranka area on the second consecutive day today.
The agitating people were demanding arrest of the miscreants allegedly involved in beating up of a Selection Grade Constable from Nerojal village in Rajouri town few days back and beating up of 2-3 more people near Rajouri when they were carrying some milch animals.
Alleging harassment, the people alleged that Constable along with his wife was carrying domestic milch animal to his house when the youth intercepted him in Jawahar Nagar area during night and beat him up. He was also thrashed in police station by some cops. They demanded that youth involved in beating up of SGC be arrested and FIR be lodged against them.
The shops and other business establishments of one community remained closed in Rajouri town while protests were held at Kotranka, Darhal and Thanna-mandi. They demanded that justice be done. They also raised slogans against Police and local administration when a police party led by SP intervened and not allowed a group of people to forcibly close down the market near Panja Chowk in Rajouri town.
The administration held meeting with some prominent persons of the town from both the communities and tried to resolve the issue and defuse tension.
