Joint Action Committee spokesperson PT Kunzang flanked by Committee Chairman Tsewang Thinles, Vice Chairman Shiekh Saif-Ud-Din and Ashraf Ali Barcha and Secretary ES Gergan in their speeches at Leh expressed concern over State Government failing to interfere in the court decision. They appealed the Government to bring a private bill in the upcoming Assembly session to revoke the court decision.
PT Kunzang said that considering the backwardness economically, educationally, socially and topographically Ladakh region has been granted special ST status by the State Government in 2004 after scarifices of many great leaders but unfortunately without enjoying much benefit till date. Court decision to scrap the status has hurt the sentiment of Ladakh region, added Kuzang.
He stated that Joint Action Committee will fight unitedly till their goals are achieved.
Later, Joint Action Committee members submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister through Additional Deputy Commissioner Leh.
Meanwhile, bandh was also observed in Ladakh and Kargil, where all the business establishments remained closed and traffic remained off the roads. Apart from main town Kargil, the bandh was also observed in Sankoo, Drass and Chickten over reservation issue.
It is to mention that, Jammu and Kashmir High Court had recently ruled that there will be no benefit of reservation in promotion of Government servants in the State.
