Ban on JuD important announcement, says GOC 15 Corps

SRINAGAR: Welcoming Pakistan’s decision to ban 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafeez Sayed-led Jamaat-ud Dawa (JuD), General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 15 Corps Lieutenant General Subrata Saha said it needs to be seen how it is being implemented on the ground.

Pakistan’s decision to ban JuD and Haqqani network is certainly an important announcement. We have to wait and see how the announcement manifests itself on the ground and how it is implemented. It is an important decision and we are monitoring the situation,’ he told a group of mediapersons on the sideline of blood donation and medical camp organised at Cantonment today.

Lt Gen Saha said about 150 to 160 militants are waiting at launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK). These militants are gearing up to sneak into this side to hamper the social harmony of the country.

However, anti infiltration grid is working to foil any such militant attempt to sneak into this side, he said. About the security arrangements in the Kashmir valley for Republic Day and US president Barack Obamas visit, Lt Gen Saha said every year security measures are being enhanced on Republic Day and other important days.

He said this time too, the security has been stepped up along the International Border and LoC and extra security measures have been taken in preparation for US President Obama’s three-day visit to India.

“Even though security measure are enhanced every year for RD, but keeping in view the very high level visit by US president, all precautions are being taken in terms of intensified patrolling, surveillance, keeping sensitive areas under ‘extra care’ and so on,’ Lt Gen Saha said here today.

Keeping in view the threat perception during President Obama’s three-day visit, the country has been put on high security alert. Obama, who will arrive in the national capital at round 1000 hrs on Sunday, will be the first US President to attend India’s Republic Day celebrations. (AGENCIES)
