NEW DELHI: Baloch leader Brahamdagh Bugti, who is living in exile in Switzerland, will seek asylum in India.
Bugti, who is the chief of the Baloch Republican Party and grandson of Baloch nationalist leader Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, has been in self-imposed exile since his grandfather was killed in an encounter with Pakistani Army about ten years ago.
He told reporters in Geneva, “We have decided that we will formally file application for asylum to the Indian government. We will start work on it right away. We expect all kind of support from India.”
The decision, which was taken after a meeting of the BRP in the Swiss city, comes days after media reports showed the Pakistani government had speeded up the process of obtaining Interpol’s red warrants against the Baloch leader.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had for first time, on his Independence Day address from the Red Fort, had raised the issue of human rights violation in Balochistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and expressed support for their cause for which he earned thanks from Bugti. (AGENCIES)
