Bali reviews initiatives for starting PG Courses in GDCJ

Calls for early completion of necessary requirements of DCI

JAMMU: Minister for Health & Medical Education, Bali Bhagat reviewed the initiatives taken by the authorities for starting the PG Courses in Government Dental College (GDC) Jammu at a meeting held here today.

Principal Government Dental College, Dr. Romesh Singh, Managing Director, JKMSCL, Inderjeet Bhagat, Joint Director Planning, Madan Lal and other concerned officers of the Health & Medical Education were present in the meeting.

The Minister received detailed feedback of steps being taken vis-a-vis creation of infrastructural and other allied facilities including, faculty and para-medics required for running the PG Courses as per the requirements of the Dental Council of India (DCI). He issued necessary instructions to the Principal, GDC, who is also the Member of the DCI to fulfill all necessary requirements as early as possible so that the mandatory inspections by the DCI can be conducted.

The Minister reiterated the commitment of the Government to start the PG Courses in Government Dental College as early as possible as there is great demand from the students from the State. He said the State Government is keen to start the first batch of PG Course with at least 10 seats, for which the Government of India has been approached. He directed the Principal to personally monitor the progress of the constructional and other activities and clear decks for starting the Courses.

The Minister also directed the MD, JKMSCL to expedite the projected procurement for the GDC required for making the PG department functional and maintaining close liaison with the GDC authorities for future requirements.

The Principal GDC informed about the steps initiated at his level for the purpose and said that over 90 percent construction of new block has been completed and other issues relating to the creation of necessary infrastructure, like lab, library, hostel etc are underway and likely to be accomplished within next few months. As regard faculty position, he maintained that faculty is in place and no immediate steps required for the same.  He said after completing the necessary requirements, the concerned authorities will be approached for conducting the inspections.
