JAMMU, Apr 23: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Bali Bhagat today said that the Government will come down heavily on those indulging in dental quackery that has become a grave threat to the health of people.
Bhagat gave the assurance to Dr Gautam Sharma, president of the Indian Dental Association (IDA), who called on the Minister along with Dr Bhupinder Singh, secretary of the IDA, to appraise the Minister about the problems that the professional doctors were facing.
They brought to the notice of the Minister that despite previous efforts the authorities have so far not been in a position to eradicate the quacks, who have become a source of spreading communicable disease as they were using unsterilized instruments while giving wrong roadside treatment to innocent patients who fall into their trap. “This has become root cause of blood borne disease including HIV and hepatitis-B. Wrong prosthetic treatment by quacks is a major cause of oral cancer”, he added.
Dr Gautam also appraised the Minister about non-existence of the State Dental Council that has been dissolved due to technical reasons. The Minister said that the matter will be looked into as the annual registration of dental doctors that was mandatory was suffering. He directed the Secretary, Health and Medical Education to examine the case and take suitable steps in the matter.
Bhagat appreciated the IDA Jammu for regularly organizing dental camps for the poor and less privileged sections of the society. He asked Dr Gautam to organize more such camps and oral health awareness lectures in the villages so that the people were benefitted.
