JAMMU, Apr 14: The festival of Baisakhi was celebrated today with great enthusiasm, religious fervour and cultural vibrancy across Jammu region.
Thousands of devotees thronged Gurdwaras and temples to mark the auspicious occasion while traditional Baisakhi Melas at Ranbir canal and Tawi riverbank in Jammu were colourful attractions of the day.
From early morning, people gathered at various religious places, including prominent Gurdwaras, to offer prayers and seek blessings. Devotees participated in special kirtans and listened to religious discourses highlighting the significance of the day, which commemorates the foundation of the Khalsa Panth by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699 and also marks the harvest season in northern India.

Traditional fervour was visible along the banks of the Tawi river, where many people took a ritual dip as part of the age-old Dogra customs associated with Baisakhi. The occasion also witnessed people offering prayers at temples and performing special puja rituals at their homes, symbolising gratitude for a good harvest and prosperity.
Colourful celebrations were held at various places in and around Jammu, with fairs (melas), cultural programmes and community gatherings drawing large crowds.
Traditional Baisakhi Mela at Ranbir Canal attracted impressive crowd, particularly children who enjoyed swing ride and other festivities. The Mela was inaugurated by BJP MLA Yudhvir Sethi.
The ongoing Baisakhi-themed festivities at the Tawi riverfront added to the festive spirit, featuring activities like cultural performances, food stalls and traditional events, attracting families and youth alike.
Markets across Jammu also witnessed increased footfall, as people shopped for sweets, clothes and other festive items.
Baisakhi, celebrated on April 14 this year, holds immense cultural, agricultural and religious importance, marking the beginning of the Punjabi New Year and the harvest of rabi crops.
