Badminton Tourney by Rashtriya Rifles gets underway

BHADERWAH, Sept 9: To promote sports and to groom the hidden talent of hilly areas, Indian Army’s Rashtriya Rifles (RR) based at Bhaderwah started a mega Badminton Championship for College and School students under Operation Sadhbhavana, here.
The Championship in which 4 Colleges of District Doda and 8 Schools of Bhaderwah will compete in four age and gender categories commenced at Indoor Badminton Court of 4RR Battalion headquarters Sarna.
On the occasion, Col D Pandey, CO 4RR was the chief guest, who inaugurated the Championship along with other dignitaries present on the occasion.
The sporting event is aimed to promote sports among youth, especially girls, besides providing youth an opportunity to show their skills at a bigger platform.
Army appreciated the players, who showed keen interest and came in such a large number to participate in the tournament.
Chief guest Col Panday expressed his gratitude to the participants especially girls for participating in the tournament.
He also lauded District Sports Authority, Badminton Clubs, Principals of Schools and Colleges for helping Army in organising such event and bringing together players from across the villages to participate in the event.
