SAMBA, Mar 2: Highlighting its demands, All India Backward Classes Union held a protest dharna at Press Club Jammu.
Led by Abdul Majid Malik, the protesters raised slogans in support of their demands, including enhancement of creamy layer from Rs 4.5 lakh to Rs 6 lakh, renewal of OBC certificates on the basis of income certificate, enhancement of reservation quota to 27 percent and due reservation in both the Legislative Houses as per population.
The protest demonstration was addressed by several speakers who condemned the Government in Centre as well as the State for insensitive approach towards the sufferings of J&K OBCs who form 60 percent of the State population.
They claimed that neither Congress nor National Conference considered the Union’s suggestion of ‘Magic Solution’ under which no category loses its due share while conceding the demands of backward classes.
Further, they added, no action has yet been taken on formation of the censes committee over the decided population of 52 percent of State OBCs despite the Government assurance for the same.
The Union leaders threatened to launch a vigorous agitation if their demands are not conceded by the Government.
