KATRA, Aug 30: The Foundation Day of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board was observed as black day by erstwhile Baaridars of the cave shrine who also held a protest demonstration, here today.
A number of Baaridars assembled at Katra and held demonstration amidst raising of slogans against the Shrine Board authorities. They also took out a procession in Katra town before assembling at main bazar chowk where the demonstration was held.
Addressing the rally, protestors said that Baaridars were fighting for their genuine rights since more than 3 decades but all in vain. “Now Shrine Board has another plan of finishing the Katra market and labourers by opening the new route for vehicles,” they alleged.
The protestors claimed that at the time of taking over control of the cave shrine, the Board had promised to fund development works in and also job preference to locals. “However, it turned out to be a fake promise,” they alleged.
The protestors dispersed off peacefully after holding demonstration.
