Carrying banners and raising slogans in support of their demands, the protesting students alleged step motherly treatment with Zanskar Sub-Division by the Kargil District administration ever since creation of Ladakh Union Territory. They were also demanding immediate restoration of the internet services as students were facing a lot of problems because of no digital connectivity.
“Zanskar, having an area of 7000 square kilometers and sparsely populated, is the oldest tehsil in the Union Territory of Ladakh but because of its location at a distance of 250 kilometers from the administrative headquarter and step motherly treatment by the administration, people have been suffering immensely,” they explained.
The Association rued extremely poor telecommunication and surface connectivity in Zanskar and added that because of geographical isolation, local people have to suffer a lot on account of lack of proper health facilities.
Urging the Government to look into the problems and issues being confronted by the students of Zanskar, AZSA reiterated that separate District status to Zanskar Sub-Division was the only solution to end their miseries while normal life should be restored by lifting restrictions on internet etc.
