JAMMU, Aug 16: Alleged half hearted approach of the Congress high command to placate Ghulam Nabi Azad boomeranged when he resigned from the chairmanship of newly constituted JKPCC Campaign Committee immediately after AICC President approved constitution of various committees and appointed Vikar Rasool Wani as new President of Jammu Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee.
Even as the name of Vikar Rasool as new PCC President was forwarded by none other than Ghulam Nabi Azad, sources told the Excelsior that he was purportedly annoyed over the way Congress high command allegedly mistreated him despite his services to the party for around four decades.
“Azad was not taken into confidence by the party high command while constituting the JKPCC Committees and his reaction is all set to be followed by resignation of majority of his loyalists in Jammu Kashmir Congress,” sources said, adding that the leader who remained AICC Working Committee member for 37 years and considered as one of the tallest leaders of the country, was apparently not given due recognition by his own party men at the helm of affairs.
Sources further said that Mr Azad was disappointed over the way Congress high command did not give an ear to his suggestions for strengthening the party at grass root level.
Earlier, ending uncertainty of more than a month, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi today appointed Vikar Rasool Wani as the new President of Jammu Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) after accepting the resignation of Ghulam Ahmad Mir.
Besides repeating Raman Bhalla as the PCC Working President, Sonia Gandhi also approved the constitution of various committees, including the significant Campaign Committee and Ghulam Nabi Azad as its Chairman thus giving an impression that the latter was given a free hand with regard to J&K affairs.
Last month, the Excelsior had exclusively reported that Vikar Rasool Wani was likely to be new PCC President replacing G A Mir while Ghulam Nabi Azad would get free hand by the Congress high command to deal with the party affairs in Jammu and Kashmir.
