Axis Bank adopts 104 remote schools in Leh, Kargil

LEH, Nov 12: Axis Bank in partnership with the local Non-Profit Organization 17000 ft Foundation has adoped 104 schools of Ladakh with an aim of transforming Government Schools and providing access to better resources for its children.
Titled AXIS DilSe, this three year project will impact 52 schools from each district of Ladakh, totaling to 104, with the schools chosen on the recommendation of the Department of Education of both districts and keeping a special emphasis on remote schools.
On the occasion, Dr Sonam Dawa Lonpo, Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC Leh was the chief guest, while Kunzes Angmo, District Program Officer ICDS Projects Leh, Tashi Dolma, Joint Director Education, Ladakh, Suresh Warrier, Head Corporate Affairs and CSR Axis Bank, Dawa Jora, Director 17000 ft Foundation, Sujata Sahu, Founder Director, 17000 ft Foundation, Konchok Angmo, Principal DIET Leh and other dignitaries were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sonam Dawa Lonpo said, “Axis DilSe is a well thought out three year initiative that aims at mental and physical development of children in Government Schools of Leh and Kargil. I would also like to see story telling sessions being conducted in the libraries provided in these schools for the children, emphasizing on local culture and folk stories of the region”.
Kunzes Angmo said that the anganwari centres in Leh need better facilities and good training for their workers and good teaching materials so that they can prepare the children for formal induction into primary schools and 17000 ft Foundation along with Axis Bank is providing this platform for making the anganwari centres more child friendly.
Tashi Dola said, “We are happy with the CEC’s support we are able to embark on more such initiatives to improve overall development of children in the region. With the collaboration with 17000 ft Foundation and their expertise, we hope to also equip the teachers in running similar programmes within their schools”.
Suresh Warrier said, “Axis Bank strongly believes in holistic development of communities with focus on creating sustainable livelihoods. Access to quality education thus becomes an important enabler to achieving this. This is all the more vital for remote communities where geographical and climatic constraints pose a challenge for children to access quality education facilities. Axis DilSe initiative is our endeavour in this regard to aid educational development in the district of Leh and Kargil in Jammu and Kashmir”.
