AWSC discusses issues, problems of senior citizens with Bali Bhagat

JAMMU Nov 24: A deputation of Association for Welfare of Senior Citizens called on Bali Bhagat, Minister for Social Welfare, to discuss with him various problems being faced by senior citizens of the State.
The deputation, led by its president Er A K Arora, included Er Vikram Gour (patron), B M Kohli (vice-president), R C Gupta (general secretary), K K Mahajan (vice-president) and Virender Gupta.
It was brought to the notice of the minister that after a fight of over 6-years, the Govt has allotted 8-Kanal of land for construction of an Old Age Home to AWSC at village Jagti, Nagrota. The allotment of land for the purpose has been made by the Government through Director, Social Welfare but AWSC has been still waiting for further transfer of land it for the last almost one, the deputation explained and urged the minister for his personal intervention in this regard.
The Association took up some other issues and demands, which included adoption of National Policy on Older Persons (NPOP) 1999 & Maintenance of parents Act 2007 by the State Government, revival of State Level Advisory Council for Senior Citizens to study and project problems of the SC for formulation of state policy on older persons, special emphasis on health-care of elders with separate and especial facilities in medical institutions both private and that of government, provisions of Shelters and Day Care Centers and Pay & Stay accommodation for senior citizens, making public services user friendly for elders, utilizing skills and experience of SC in Government works for formulation, evaluation, monitoring, review etc to give them a feeling of being useful to the society, creation of a Trust for Health-Care of the elders of the State, ensuring safety and security of the older persons living alone, encouraging the NGOs working in the field for older persons and provide working accommodation to the NGOs.
The Minister discussed details of the prevailing situation for elders and need to take immediate action for providing relief to the older persons.
