LEH, Apr 2: Awareness programme on Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS), implemented by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi was held at EJM College, here today.
On the occasion, Prof Ajit Sangral, Nodal Officer, J&K PMSSS, Anand Sharma, Deputy Director PMSSS (AICTE) and RK Ganju, Assistant Director PMSSS (AICTE) were the resource persons to disseminate information about PMSSS.
Addressing the gathering, Principal EJM College, Leh said that PMSSS is a welcome step beneficial for the Ladakhi students not only in terms of availing scholarship but as an exposure opportunity in some of the best colleges in India. He said that local students when go out of Ladakh faces many difficulties including falling prey to money mentors and there are number of Ladakhis in Leh and Kargil voluntarily working in this direction to educate and guide our younger generation. He stressed on the need to go a step further with PMSSS and initiate more awareness programmes in other higher secondary school of the district.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Ajit Sangral, Nodal Officer, J&K PMSSS asserted that students from Jammu, Kashmir, Leh and Kargil are equally competent to compete with anyone anywhere in the country. He said that provided a good learning platform and counseling students from J&K can compete even at international level in academics and other fields. He asserted that PMSSS is an initiative to help J&K students who are willing to enter into higher education with an objective to provide them the opportunity for better education, exposure and learning platform.
Prof Sangral stressed upon the role of school teaching faculty in the district to take the responsibility to inform and educate students of high and higher secondary classes about this scholarship programme to achieve the mission of filling the target of 5000 scholarship given to J&K state under PMSSS. He emphasis on ensuring authentic and personal bank account, email ID and phone number of students to get direct benefit and timely information by the students themselves.
On the occasion, Anand Sharma and RK Raju gave a detailed power point presentation on PMSSS portal, online registration for the scholarship that commence from April 10 for the students who appeared or passed the 12th board exam for the session 2018-19 under JKBOSE or CBSE.
A question and answer session was also held during the programme.
The event was attended by teachers of Government and private higher secondary schools in Leh.
