JAMMU, Mar 2: The Agromet Research Centre of SKUAST- Jammu organised an awareness programme on climate change for the farmers at Chatha village here today.
The programme was held under `Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa’ , AMFU-Chatha, in order to sensitize the farmers about climate change and its impact on the agriculture and allied fields. About 100 farmers from the adjoining areas participated in this programme.
OP Sharma, Director Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing J&K, was the chief guest while Dr K S Risam, Director Extension SKUAST Jammu presided over the programme. Mr Sharma educated the farmers about the trends of climate change and its impact on the agriculture and allied activities. He also referred to the impact of green house gasses and its remedies.
Dr Risam gave brief account of the programme and also made the farmers aware of the indigenous use of pesticide, insecticide and fertilizer in various agricultural crops which contribute to the green house gasses. Dr Meenakshi Gupta, Senior Scientist and Nodal officer, AMFU-Chatha, stressed to minimize the future affect of climate change on day today life of farmers.
Earlier, Dr Veena Sharma, Technical Officer, GKMS welcomed the chief guest and other participants. Several Scientists including Dr B R Bazaya, Dr Sachin Gupta, Dr Vishal Gupta, Dr Devinder Sharma , Dr Arvind Singh and Dr Sahar Masud also educated the farmers.
