JAMMU, Aug 30: An awareness lecture on the maintenance of oral health and common diseases associated with oral cavity, was organized at Jammu University, here today.
Dr Gautam Sharma, Dental Surgeon of the University and ex-president of Indian Dental Association (IDA) Jammu, was the resource person on the occasion. He gave his power-point presentation to the newly inducted Assistant Professors in the University of Jammu as well as various colleges of Jammu. This lecture is one in the series spanning over four weeks of orientation course.
Prof Pankaj Srivastava, Head of Geology Deptt, was also present during the presentation.
Dr Gautam, in his lecture, discussed the general oral problems been faced by children, adults and elderly population. He also discussed the various habits in children, which may lead to malocclusion and other physiologic and esthetic defects. He said that majority of population is suffering from gum disease and caries which if not treated at an early stage can lead to loss of teeth. Dr Gautam also discussed various pre-malignant and malignant lesions of the oral cavity, the most potent etiological factor for which is chewing tobacco.
He stressed that everyone must visit a dentist every six months for evaluation of their dental health.
