Awareness, collective efforts imperative for environment conservation- Sunil Sharma

Kishtwar : Minister of State for Transport, PWD (R&B), Agricultural Production and YSS, Sunil Kumar Sharma chaired a programme on “World Environment day” organised by J&K State Pollution Control board Doda and Kishtwar in collaboration with “Shree Swastik Charitable Trust” and sponsored by “Green Alternatives” a social cultural & environmental organisation here today.

On the occasion, a symposium cum awareness programme on the topic “Pollution and waste free homes” was held in which a large number of students from different schools participated and expressed their views.

The Minister, while addressing the participants said that protection and preservation of environment is the need of the hour when the whole world is facing environmental degradation and global warming.

The Minister asked the Pollution control board to take more such initiatives for creating awareness among the people especially students about the importance of saving environment for our own welfare.

He announced Rs. 10 lakh, out of his CDF, for development of infrastructure and construction of some new blocks in the school.

Later, Sunil Sharma visited Waseer, Kuleed, PDC colony and other areas of Kishtwar and took stock of problems being faced by the people there.

During the visit, the locals put forth certain demands like availability of Drinking water supply, construction of Pacca paths and Tile work, Lane drain maintenance, upgradation of existing transformers, black topping of roads, availability of staff in health and education departments.

The Minister, who was accompanied by the district administration, directed the concerned departments for redressal of public grievances in a time-bound manner.
