Awareness campaign on ‘Prevention of Cancer among Women’ culminates

JAMMU, Mar 8: The three day campaign organised by Sheela Krishna Preventive Gynaecologic Oncology OPD and Kaushalya Gynaecologic Palliation Centre—a unit of Lajwanti Medical Trust, to educate the public about prevention of cancer among women, culminated here today.
The interactive session was organised today at Lajwanti Hospital for Women, Kunjwani bye-pass opposite Greater Kailash, Jammu where the public was made aware about cancer among women with stress on risk factors, causative factors, screening and available vaccines for its prevention.
Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Mayor, Chander Mohan Gupta was the chief guest while Purnima Sharma, Deputy Mayor; Vikram Randhawa, ex-MLC and Rahul Sahay, Co-Chairman PHD Chamber of Jammu Chapter were the guests of honour.
Dr Shafiqa Bano, Gynaecologist, Government Hospital Sarwal and Dr S.K Atrri, HoD Pathology, Government Medical College Kathua were the resource persons.
The chief guest and the guests of honour lauded the efforts of NGO sector in promoting knowledge about the disease and its detection in early stage.
One of the participant—a cancer survivor talked about his pains during the diseases and provided the audience the reason to fight against the menace of cancer.
Earlier, Dr Kasturi Lal, Director of the Institution welcomed the guests and gave a brief introduction of the campaign.
He emphasised on the public to have education about prevention of the disease.
The Director also said that the disease can be prevented or the cases can be detected in early stage, if we simply use screening strategy in institutions where easily accessible facilities are available to the communities.
He said, now there is a major focus on the available vaccines for prevention of cancer.
“Having palliative backup in institutions should be our priority,” he maintained.
