JAMMU, Dec 22: To create awareness among the youth of Jammu Province, particularly the young students about the menace of drug addiction and its harmful effects on social life, a mega programme was conducted today at Government Degree College, Paloura.
On the occasion, College students participated in a debate on drug menace and dwelt at length the ill effects of drug abuse that is spoiling the career of younger generation. They also urged the UT administration to make stringent laws so that drug peddlers are dealt with iron hands.
Zorawar Singh Jamwal, Chairman, Team Jammu, while addressing the College students including NCC Cadets and NSS Volunteers, delivered a lecturer on the burning topic. He explained to the students, how this menace is spreading at a very fast pace in northern Indian states particularly here in Jammu and Kashmir. He stressed upon the role of parents as well as teachers in protecting the youth from falling prey to this life consuming fatal habit of drug addiction.
Zorawar Singh said that drug addiction is destroying younger generation of J&K and it is need of the hour to evolve a consensus how to deal with this deadly menace. He said that drug abuse in J&K is part of narco-terrorism, imported from the neighbouring Pakistan to spoil youth.
Team Jammu chief reiterated demand to break the strong nexus of drug mafia with other influential sections of the society. He also advised the institutional management to conduct lectures on this topic and provide counselling session for the students from time to time so that they remain away from killer habit.
SDPO Domana, DySP Sunil Singh, also conducted an inter-active session with the students. He elaborated upon the evils of Drug abuse and how it is spreading its tentacles in this region. He called upon the students to come forward and inform police wherever they see any suspicious movement be around their educational institutions or around their residential localities.
Principal, GDC, Paloura, Prof Ashu Vashisht, in her address, advised the students to keep themselves away from this deadly menace and guide other youth living in their respective localities not to fall prey to drug abuse.
