JAMMU, May 9: Expressing concern over controversy raked up by a widespread public perception in Doda that realignment, delimitation and renaming of Municipal Committee wards in Doda city is biased in favour of a particular community, Dr Jitendra Singh, BJP National Executive Member and Chief Spokesperson, has appealed the administration to bring all sections of civil society on board and take steps to dispel such an impression before it leads to an avoidable communal divide in an otherwise harmonious relationship among different communities living in the area.
Dr Jitendra Singh, said that though there are several other pending demands, including expediting the work to complete Ganpath Bridge, improving health and education infrastructure and upgrading 50 year old middle school in Bijarni/Gaddi, but the issue of unanimously acceptable nomenclature and fair realignment of Doda Municipal wards with consensus deserves highest priority because of its possible negative fallout.
He said that the erstwhile Doda district has always served as the most glaring example of communal amity for the whole of State especially during turmoil period. He said, moreover, realignment, delimitation or renaming of Municipal wards is a purely professional exercise and should not be influenced by any extraneous consideration adding that if this rule is not adhered to in case of Doda Municipality, it will set a bad precedence to be followed in other parts of the State.
Dr Jitendra Singh called upon the leadership of all political parties, particularly the ruling coalition not to succumb to temptation of seeking mileage by appeasing one community at the cost of the other.
He further informed that BJP Doda Mandal (block) led by its Mandal (block) President Munshi Ram Parihar and under the guidance of prominent local BJP leader Gajay Singh Rana have also made a formal representation on the issue to the Chief Secretary of the State.
