JAMMU, Feb 4: Commissioner JMC, Avny Lavasa, here today chaired 3rd ABC/ARV Monitoring Committee meeting to review the current status of ongoing ABC/ARV programme within JMC limits.
The meeting was attended by ABC Monitoring Committee members including Anil Kumar Masson, Councilor Ward number 10; Dr. Sushil Kumar Sharma, MVO JMC; Dr. Indu Bhushan, VAS, MACC Roop Nagar; Devinder Kour Madaan, Chairperson, SAVE (NGO) and Namrata Hakhoo, Founder/Chairperson, Hakhoo Street Animals Foundation Trust.
During meeting, threadbare discussions were held on various aspects of ABC/ARV programme being run by JMC and various decisions were taken for better progress of ongoing ABC/ARV programme at MACC Roop Nagar.
MVO JMC, Dr. Sushil Kumar Sharma presented the current status of ABC/ARV programme before the committee members.
It was decided that the local Animal Welfare organizations in collaboration with JMC shall contribute in counseling general public through awareness camps about improving human behavior towards community dogs and should make diligent efforts to sensitize, inform and educate the community about effectiveness of ABC/ARV programme in reducing dog population as well as in eradicating rabies. It was also decided that Ward wise catching shall be done so that no area is left uncovered for sterilization and vaccinations within JMC limits.
Commissioner, JMC stressed for better coordination among JMC authorities, animal activists/volunteers and Animal Welfare organizations operating in the area for making this programme a success, so that dog population can be controlled in a time bound manner as prescribed by the Animal Welfare Board of India.
