Avalanche warning issued for higher reaches in J&K

SRINAGAR : An avalanche warning was on Wednesday issued by the Disaster Management Authorities (DMA) for the higher reaches in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
Intermittent rain and snow continued for the third successive day on Wednesday in Kashmir valley, where the weather is expected to improve from Thursday onwards.
DMA Director Aamir Ali Mir said that a medium danger avalanche warning has been issued for higher reaches of Kishtwar in Jammu, Kupwara and Bandipora in north Kashmir.
He said low level avalanche warning exists for higher reaches of Poonch, Rajouri, Ramban, Doda in Jammu region and Anantnag, Kulgam in south; Baramulla in north and Ganderbal in central Kashmir.
“The low level warning also exists for Leh in the Union Territory of Ladakh,” he said.
He said the people living in these areas have been advised to take precautions and not to venture in avalanche prone areas. (AGENCIES)
