Avalanche hits Siachen, 2 soldiers martyred

Jammu, Nov 30: An avalanche hit Siachen Glacier in Ladakh region this morning and swept an Army patrol party in which two soldiers were martyred.
The avalanche hit Southern Siachen Glacier at an altitude of 18000 feet this morning. An Army patrol was swept away by the avalanche and several Army personnel were buried under it.
The Army rescue team following the patrol party immediately launched rescue operation in the area and pulled out the Army personnel from the avalanche.
The helicopters were pressed into service and the Army personnel were taken to nearby medical facility. Two of the Army personnel succumbed at the hospital.
They have been identified as Naib Subedar Shivang Gialsan of Chemry Leh and Rifleman Padma Nargas of Leh.
This is the second avalanche that hit Siachen Glacier this month. Earlier, four soldiers and two Army porters were martyred after avalanche hit the Glacier this month after heavy snowfall in the region.
