Avail benefits of ‘Ladli Beti’ scheme: Lal Singh to people

JAMMU, Sept 24: Minister for Health and Medical Education, ARI and Trainings Choudhary Lal Singh today urged upon the people to avail benefits of Social Assistance Scheme ‘Ladly Beti’, adding that the scheme has been meant for new born girl child of the State with an aim to reverse the alarming trend of declining child sex ratio.
This was stated by the Minister at a meeting of officers of Health and Medical Education Departments of Jammu province at Government Gandhi Nagar Hospital, here today.
Secretary Health and Medical Education Departments Dr. Mandeep K Bhandari, Principal GMC Dr. Ghanshyam Dev Gupta, Director Health Services Dr. Baljeet Singh Pathania, Director Family Welfare Dr. Baldev Raj Sharma, Mission Director NHM Dr. Mohan Singh, Assistant Controller Drugs and Food Control Organization, Lotika Khajuria, besides Chief Medical Officers, Block Medical Officers and Medical Officers of Jammu province were present in the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, the Minister said that the aim to launch the Ladli Beti scheme by the Government is to consider life cycle approach for addressing the concerns of girl child, right from the birth to adulthood and provide financial security that enables to create a strong positive disposition towards the girl child.
Highlighting the benefits of scheme, Choudhary Lal Singh informed that under the scheme, a contribution of Rs. 1000 per month would be made towards the birth of every girl with effect from 01-04-2015 for the next 14 years and on reaching 21 years she would receive around Rs. 6.5 lakh. He said that the scheme will be applicable on pilot basis in six districts of the State which included Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Budgam, Pulwama and Anantnag, exhibiting low and declining child sex ratio so as to create a positive disposition towards the girl child.
The Minister said the beneficiary will possess valid Permanent Resident Certificate of the selected districts, adding that the family living temporarily outside the home district will also be eligible for availing the benefits under the scheme. However, no person/family of the other districts, temporarily residing in the selected districts will be covered under the scheme.
The Minister said in case of birth certificate of the child is not available at the time of registration for the scheme, other documentary proofs like discharge certificate of the mother from the medical facility/prenatal check up card can be produced or a certificate from ASHA and in exceptional circumstances a report from the Chowkidar of the village. However, it will be obligatory on the parents to submit the birth certificate within 3 months. Simultaneously, on the receipt of application form, CDPOs will also make a request to the designated authorities for issuance of birth certificate immediately.
Earlier, Choudhary Lal Singh also reviewed the progress of State Family Benefit Scheme (SFBS) at the conference hall of the Government Gandhi Nagar hospital.
Choudhary Lal Singh informed that under the scheme, the beneficiary will get a one-time financial assistance of Rs. 40,000, adding that a provision of Rs. 20 crore is being made for this scheme.
