JAMMU, Feb 14: Expressing deep concern over continuous road accidents, National Awami United Party (NAUP) president, Sandeep Singh Manhas has asked the authorities concerned to raise the height of crash barriers (Steel Jala) at black spots to control road accidents in hilly areas of Jammu region.
He also demanded adequate compensation for the bereaved family of Drabshaal, Kishtwar road accident.
The NAUP leader claimed that number of commercial and private vehicles have increased manifold in J&K and demanded an adequate plan for smooth functioning of road traffic on hilly and plain areas.
“Everyday precious lives are lost in road accidents particularly in hilly areas of Jammu region,” he stated in a handout.
He claimed that despite the implementation of new transport policy across the country, concerned departments in J&K have failed to aware the people about road safety measures.
“Only hype is created during traffic weeks organised in the month of January but no concrete steps have been taken to implement road safety measures,” he further said.
