Spike in COVID-19 cases in Kashmir; 24 test +ve, J&K tally 188

Srinagar, Apr 9: The spike in the Coronavirus cases in Kashmir continued for second consecutive day today with 24 people testing positive taking the number of Corona cases in the Valley to 152 and 188 in Jammu and Kashmir.
Twenty four people tested positive today with 21 cases at SKIMS Soura and three at Government Medical College Srinagar laboratories.
Among the fresh cases include 12 contacts of a 52-year-old man from Gund Jahangeer Hajin who became third victim of the disease last week while 8 are contacts of a COVID-19 teacher from Tangmarg who lost his father to Corona last month.
Among the contacts of the deceased Gund Jahangeer Hajin man are his 11 close relatives including his 50-year-old wife and two daughters-one of them 19-years-old while other is 14-years-old besides granddaughter, a 14-year-old girl who is a resident of Amargarh Sopore.
The eight of his other contacts include his two sisters-in-law-one of the 60-year-old and other 55-year-old, while remaining are 3 nephews-aged 24, 31 and 35 years besides 26-year-old niece and a 22-year-old man, his relative from Naidkhai area of the district.
The Tangmarg teacher’s contact, include his in-laws: a family of five-48-year-old man, his wife, 40, 12 year old son and two daughters-one 14 years and other 20 years old-besides 3 others one of them a 75 year old widow and her 23 year old son besides a 29-year-old woman, all residents of Sullanda Tangmarg.

The four other cases which surfaced today include that of a 22-year-old from Muqam-e-Shahwali in Kupwara district who had returned from New Delhi on March 20. He was quarantined only two days ago. The youth has history of travel to Delhi and has been shifted to COVID Hospital Kupwara along with immediate contacts.
One is from Soibugh in district Budgam who is contact of a person who tested positive and had a travel history of attending a Tableegi Jamaat meeting outside Jammu and Kashmir.
The three other cases include that of a woman from Tengpora Srinagar whose sample was taken at SMHS and was shifted to CD hospital. Another is a 24-year-old man, resident of Sopat area and he happened to be one of the contacts of the first COVID-19 victim, the 67-year-old man from Hyderpora Srinagar.
With these fresh cases, the number of COVID-19 patients in J&K has gone up to 188. Among them, 152 are in Kashmir and 36 in Jammu. While six patients in J&K-one in Kashmir and 3 in Jammu-have been discharged, four others- one from Udhampur and three from the Valley have died of the disease so far.
Dr Mohammad Saleem Khan told Excelsior that today 94 tests were conducted at GMC testing Laboratory in Srinagar out of which 3 tested positive and 91 negative. He said that 98 are under process and 150 new samples were received today.
And the lockdown across Kashmir continued for the 21st day today with authorities acting tough against the violators of Government orders issued to prevent spread of Coronavirus.
Police and paramilitary troopers were deployed on roads and they had erected concertina wire to block the roads to prevent movement of people and vehicles.
