Attempt to trivialize religious cleansing

Vijay Bhat
Apropos of  Abdul Rashid Bhat’s  article titled ‘Return of KPs”(Daily Excelsior, June 4,2015).Author has indulged in trivializing the religious cleansing inflicted on the Kashmiri Pandits and   has adopted the approach that is a clear method of bailing out the communal moorings of the majority community of  Kashmir who had collaborated with the separatist establishment and jihadis by allowing them social and religious space to engineer the genocide of the community. It ultimately led to the complete religious cleansing of the minority community of Kashmiri Pandits from their ancestral Homeland, not to speak about the selective killings and warnings issued in the local dailies and from the pulpits of the separatist controlled mosques to the infidel Pandits. His commentary is flawed and abstract when he says that “there must be some coherent reasons and compulsions which forced them for their displacement.”It is not some reason, it is the communalization of the majority community   that rendered the Kashmiri Pandits homeless. Besides he has called the religious cleansing of the community as ‘migration”. It is the falsification of the reality. Kashmiri Pandits are not nomads who migrated for greener pastures of land to feed their cattle and livestock but the original inhabitants of Kashmir who shaped the history, culture, geography, aesthetics and religion of the land besides Sanskritised the Northern frontier in Jammu and Kashmir. They are Internally Displaced People (IDPs) who have been rendered landless and right less within the boundaries of their own state and nation by the forces who thrive on communalism and theo fascism.
He has tried to bail out the majority community from the accountability that they had to prove  towards the minorities ,which they failed to prove as they  co opted  the communal forces guided by jihads.
He has taken an escape route to bail out those who indulged in the persecution the Kashmiri Pandits and for that he has eulogized the KP teachers of that time for their contribution in  the  field of education but at the same time made it clear that as free thinkers and beacons of  intellect they have no right to shape the opinion of the their community. As long as they imparted education to the majority community , it was good  as per him but once they stood upright to contest the strangulation  of the human rights of the minority they were wrong.
He has used the mask of praise  though superficial to cast aspersions on the  eminent political scientist of the state ,an erudite scholar and thinker Prof. M. K. Teng by saying that “I miss Mr. M.K. Teng(now a changed man) who taught  the basics of political science  in S.P. College Srinagar and would  play  a host  as and when  we visited his house  at Safa Kadal.”This is a dangerous statement .What does he mean by  ‘a changed man”?He wants the persecutors of the community to eat their cake and have it too.
Prof. M.K.Teng  will be remembered for his concern and sensitivity towards the human rights of the minorities and  the Kashmiri Pandit community in the state  when the state machinery and the political establishment connived with communal and theo fascist forces to erase  every element of the minority community in their natural habitat. It was he who infused the sense of resurgence and renaissance in the desperate and despondent community and is the chief architect of the right to life and limb of the community in exile.
Instead of praising his resolve for upholding the human rights of minority community of KPs ,he has indulged in an analysis that will be termed  out as  the bail out manifesto for  our persecutors.
