Attack on labour laws by BJP Govt shocking: JKCCTU

SRINAGAR, May 23: The Jammu and Kashmir Coordination Committee of Trade Unions (JKCCTU) has alleged that attack on labour laws by the BJP Govt at the time when lakhs of workers are losing jobs amidst Coronavirus pandemic and lock down is very shocking and most unfair act.
In a voice conference held today which was attended by most of the office bearers and important state committee members of the Committee and representatives of affiliated Unions, Mohd Maqbool, president JKCCTU termed Covid-19 as the biggest human tragedy and massive loss of human lives worldwide. He criticised the Modi Govt for not properly responding to it, resulting in mass unemployment and worst sufferings of migrant workers due to lockdown and the Central Govt’s recent draconian measures like changing of labour laws, freezing of DA to Govt employees and pensioners in the name of fighting Coronavirus and extending the working hours from 8 to 12 hours.
All the participants in the conference while paying their homage to the departed souls expressed condolences to the aggrieved families and lauded the role of front line workers and all those who are fighting against this deadly virus and expressed solidarity with all of them. The conference resolved to fight back the recent onslaught on the employees and workers and decided to launch struggle. They termed the decision with regard to attack on Labour laws as most unfair and shocking.
They said JKCCTU will hold the protest demonstrations all over J&K, outside different offices and at different District and Tehsil head-quarters on June 4 from 11 am to 1 pm to demand the roll back of present draconian measures like freezing of DA and other allowances, Ammendment in labour laws, change of working hours, and also regularisation and wage policy for all temporary workers like casual, contract, Anganwadi, Asha workers etc and immediate economic package for all workers, besides enhancement of minimum wages to Rs 18,000 per month, job security and un employment allowance to youth.
The conference was attended by prominent leaders like Haji Gh Mohd, Gurmeet Singh, Ali Mohd Bhat, Haji Nisar, Hilal Ahmad, Ashik Ahmad, Surinder Kumar and others.
