SRINAGAR, Aug 6: Terming the terror attack in Udhampur as an attempt to revive militancy, Governor N N Vohra today called for enhanced surveillance on all fronts, particularly in reinforcing counter-terrorism grid along the International Border.
The assault yesterday left two BSF constables dead at Samroli on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, but one of the two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorists involved was captured alive like Ajmal Kasab in the 2008 Mumbai terror strike.
“There should be enhanced surveillance on all fronts, particularly in reinforcing the counter-terrorism grid along the entire IB.
“The attack (on the BSF in Udhampur district) was aimed at reviving terrorism in Jammu region,” Vohra said.
Vohra spoke to Director General of BSF D K Pathak and IG of BSF (Jammu) Rakesh Sharma and congratulated them on the laudable response of their personnel who were attacked by the terrorists near Udhampur, an official spokesman said.
The attack left two BSF personnel and a Pakistani militant dead, while 14 personnel were injured.
A Pakistani militant was also arrested after the attack.
While conveying his sympathy to the next of kin of the two personnel who were martyred in the encounter, the Governor particularly lauded the heroic role played by Constable Rockey in saving lives of his comrades.
The Governor wished early recovery to those injured in the attack, the spokesman said.
Besides speaking with DG BSF, the spokesman said the Governor also spoke in this regard with Northern Army Commander Lt Gen D S Hooda and Director General of State Police K Rajendra.
Meanwhile, Special Director General of CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir Zone, S K Bhagat called on the Governor at the Raj Bhavan here and discussed the terror attack situation.
This was Bhagat’s first meeting with the Governor after taking over the charge, the spokesman said.
“The Governor discussed with the DG issues relating to the terror attack at Udhampur and the need for enforcing heightened vigilance,” the spokesman said, adding, Vohra also discussed with Bhagat the security arrangements for the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.
