Assembly Resolution

Sir,
It is somewhat comforting to note that at long last, the political parties of the J&K State have admitted through their unanimous resolution, that Kashmiri Pandits migrated about twenty seven ago, from Kashmir “under difficult circumstances.” The reason stated euphemistically points to the fact that the KPs were hounded out of their native place of Kashmir by the unfeeling terrorists and fundamentalists who went berserk and resorted to slaughter kidnapping, vandalism and arson, doling out threats at the same time, to the Kashmiri Hindus that if they did not leave the Valley, they would  face dire consequences’. All such things have gone down in the history which no sensible person can deny.
What is most important about the political resolution is that it has undeniably vindicated the persistent stand of the Kashmiri Pandits in exile that holocaust of the community with its horrifying ramifications, had taken place in the Valley.
They say that God sees the truth but waits (waits for the right time to do justice). The  lesser gods of J&K saw the truth long back, but they waited for so long to spell out this truth, though in suppressed words, sans any assurance of doling out justice.
The sudden thawing of the icy avalanch of silence of these politicians is intriguing. The motivation behind their softening of attitude, which does not seem to carry conviction is a subject of separate discussion. Is Kashmir safe for the Pandits under the prevailing atmosphere of terror and fear which do not show any signs of abatement in near or far  off future ? The religious frenzy has irretrievably poisoned the whole soil and soul of Kashmir. Will this frenzy ever cool off ? These are the questions  which again will become a separate topic of discussion.
The resolution adopted so spritedly is at best a cold comfort for the Kashmiri Pandits in so far as it repeats the oft repeated  tale of return with honour and dignity, sans pith and substance.
The only positive point about this resolution is that the real cause of the migration, kept under wraps for log years, has been revealed forthrightly, and it has, incidentally, debunked the mischievously crafted theory of Pandits having moved to greener pastures. It has, more importantly, provided a window into the real cause of the forced exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits to all the opinion makers, and redoubled the justification of the KP Community to seek and secure resettlement for it in the land of its ancestors, the vale of Kashmir, on its own conditions and terms, free from the fear of being driven out once again.
Yours etc…
