Srinagar, Dec 27: The aspirants of the Floriculture Department today staged a protest seeking engagement orders which are lying pending for the last more than four years.
Scores of aspirants who cleared several rounds raised for the appointment as Landscapers and Gardeners appeared in the Press Enclave, Srinagar and slogans in favour of their demands.
One of the aspirants, Aijaz Ahmad Parray from district Budgam said that the scheme for Landscapers and Gardeners was launched in 2016 and after that, over 2500 people applied for that as per notification issued by the Floriculture Department.
“Under scheme around 2500 people applied, out of which 1300 qualified; the Govt even carried out the financial concurrence, but the engagement orders are still pending,” he said.
The protesting aspirants said that they even met the former Governor Satya Pal Malik who assured them that their engagement orders will be issued within 10 days, “Few years have passed since then, but nothing has been done for us,” the protestors said.
Another protestor, Altaf Hussain Khan from Kupwara said that after they qualified, they even underwent 6-month training, but to no avail. “We were told to be appointed on fast track basis, but nothing happened,” he said.
The protestors said that due to the delay in the engagement orders, they have now over-aged and will not be able to apply for any Govt job.
“We appeal the LG to look into the matter,” the protestors said.
